Teaching Without Burning Out

Make it to the end of term with energy to spare for the people and things you love.

If you've ever dragged yourself through the final weeks of term wondering how you'll make it to the holidays, this program was built for you.

Teaching is a highly demanding job - intellectually, emotionally and physically. It's so much more than teaching a lesson, with behaviour management, lesson planning, reporting, assessments, parent engagement and school administration all competing for your time and energy. It's no wonder many teachers feel depleted and on the edge of burnout.

You can't change the demands of the job, but you can control how you adapt to them. Simple lifestyle habits can make all the difference for your energy, mood and capacity to teach well. It's about doing the basics right - think sleep, nutrition, a little exercise - to give yourself enough energy not just for the classroom, but for your home life, too.

Help yourself to:

  • Invest in your work

Fire on all cylinders in the classroom

  • Invest in your home life

Have energy left for what brings you joy outside the classroom

  • Invest in yourself

Relax on your holidays, not just recover

What we cover:

Designed to align with Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Teaching Without Burning Out is first and foremost a behaviour change program, not a wellbeing lesson. Sure, we'll teach you the scientific evidence base (drawing from the best and latest research in circadian biology, sleep science and metabolic health), but only as much as you need to help you build lasting, healthy habits that sustain you in the classroom and beyond.

Our main job is to help you make simple, helpful choices everyday, for good.

We do that by equipping you with practical skills and strategies for better managing your sleep, nutrition and exercise, not with hours of textbook learning.

Learning outline

  • How your biology shapes your best work. Learn how harnessing sleep, nutrition, light exposure, caffeine, movement and time in nature builds your physical resilience for cognitively demanding work. Explore how to use rest and recovery strategies to manage the accumulating mental and physical load across days, weeks and terms.

  • Designing a sustainable way to work and live. Build your toolkit of personal strategies and lifestyle habits that manage your energy and fit in with your real life. With our help, develop your practical, highly specific plan for bedding down your new healthy behaviours.

  • Making it work in the real world. Explore the structural and systemic barriers you might encounter in your classroom, school and broader life as you start embedding your new habits. Develop concrete strategies to help mitigate them.
